“RED FLAG!” – Why Is Superintendent Patton Resisting an independent audit??

By Steve Bracci:

At the April 11, 2017, school board meeting in Everglades City, Collier County School Superintendent Kamela Patton practically commandeered the meeting in order to fight tooth-and-nail against having an independent auditor review the school district’s financial and operational practices.  Patton has been successful in fending off such an independent audit since the beginning of her reign in 2011.

Patton’s filibustering resistance was so strong that board member Erika Donalds — herself a CPA and CFO of a large financial services company — told the board that in the private world, if a CEO such as Patton so strongly resisted an independent audit, it would be a major “RED FLAG.”

Board member Kelly Lichter joined in calling out the “RED FLAG.”

District General Counsel Jon Fishbane — who may be retained or fired by the Superintendent and therefore serves at her will rather than the board’s — went beyond simply providing legal guidance and seemingly advocated a position against an audit, steering the conversation in other directions.  Fishbane has served alongside Patton since the beginning of her reign in 2011.

Remember back in January how Obama bragged that his administration was “scandal free?”  They thought that Trump would never beat Hillary, and therefore the skeletons would never be revealed.  Look how much has now turned up in a couple months’ time under the eyes of Trump and his new administrators.

Could it be that Superintendent Patton does not want an independent auditor looking under the hood?  It sure seems that way.

And oh, by the way, Patton sure seems comfortable with that Gallagher company that she hand-picked to conduct a lesser review.

I will link to the school board video once it is posted.

  1. This is very suspicious and shows me we definitely need an independent auditor to come in and see what’s going on.

  2. Love your new web site, we need this in this far leaning left community.
We all wanted an internal audit during last school board race, why didn’t Eric and Lucarrelli fight for it???

    1. Good question, Louise! Someone should ask board members Carter and Lucarelli why they failed to seize on the opportunity to hold true to their campaign platforms. Do you think they forgot, or could they have been seduced by Patton’s charm? Hmmm….

  3. Louise — Carter and Lucarelli are bought and paid for by left wingers like Crowley and Clegg. Crowley and Clegg’s PAC raised hundreds of thousands to support Carter and Lucarelli and to do opposition research on and attack (with the help of the NDN) the endorsed Republican school board candidates like you and Dixon. In fact, their PAC hired Shield Political Research, an organization committed to “helping Democrats and progressive organizations hold their opposition accountable”. The left put the most money EVER into a Collier School Board election, and Carter and Lucarelli owe them big-time. This vote was just one installment on the left’s investment repayment.

    1. Doug – The funny thing is, there was no vote! Board member Erika Donalds was dumbfounded. Patton determined that she could unilaterally choose the reviewing company — and she chose the Arthur J. Gallagher company which is just an insurance broker with zero financial audit credentials. Watch the part of the 4/11/2017 school board video when Erick Carter brings the discussion back around to using Gallagher. Patton nearly rejoices with relief! (I believe the exchange with Carter is about 3:35 into the meeting).

  4. Carter and Lucarelli are too busy having their strings pulled by Patton and the liberals that bought them in the election. Patton also has plenty of time to brainwash Carter while he’s cutting her hair.
